RETAIL Case Study Information, Sector: Retail - Medium Sized
BELLS STORES Security is of paramount importance to all retailers. Chubb Security understands the pressures that retailers are increasingly under, and provides customers with solutions that answer specific needs. Our track record in the sector is unsurpassed. Security must be highly effective, of course, but it must never be intimidating or detract from the shopping ambience that is so vital to the "retail experience" and that is never easy when the same experience involves deliberately making merchandise inviting and accessible for the customer to interact with. Bells Stores, which is owned by J Sainsbury plc, is a chain of 56 stores based predominantly in the North East. The company has won countless awards for its world-class service and people. Bells operates a series of Chubb 'SiteMinder' systems and has seen radical results. "Before the installation of 'SiteMinder' we were repeat victims of suffering burglaries, vandalism and criminal damage which resulted in costly repair bills and insurance claims. Additionally, theft of fuel from our fleet of H.G.V.s parked overnight at our warehouse site were becoming a regular occurrence", stated Barrie Hodgson, Company Security Manager. The system has reduced the amount of attempted thefts and led to the arrest of individuals who were persistently committing crime on Bells’ premises. “I feel that due to the system being put in place we have experienced a reduction in crime of the type we have been suffering previously” added Mr Hodgson. |

EDUCATION Case Study Information, Sector: Education PRIMARY SCHOOL A small Lancashire-based primary school, was suffering prevalent problems of endless spates of vandalism and burglaries. Like so many similar schools, this one had suffered a great number of attacks. The problem was further exacerbated by the school being a secluded building. It was proving to be far too easy a target. "We encountered endless problems with youths removing roof tiles from the building, general vandalism, caretakers finding used syringes and major break-ins involving the removal of costly equipment such as faxes and PCs." stated Carolyn Lord, Headteacher of St Thomas C.E. Primary School, Blackburn. The endless repair bills, insurance claims and my nightly visits to the school when the alarm activated were all costly and time consuming issues to be dealt with, sometimes on a daily basis. Chubb Security identified the needed for a security system that would act as a deterrent as well as a system that would protect the school, its property and both staff and pupils alike. The 'SiteMinder' solution brings all the advantages of a CCTV system, with full monitoring back up and trained Alarm Receiving Centre staff able to take appropriate action immediately. "The deciding factor in the purchase of the 'SiteMinder' system was the quality and reputation of Chubb and also the lease purchase option payable over five years has no comparison against competitors. I realise that you cannot compromise on quality and with regular repairs bills eliminated overnight, I know that the system is already offering value for money", stated Mrs Lord. Within days of the cameras being fitted the vandalism and attacks stopped and the school has not encountered any problems since the installation. Chubb 'SiteMinder' has provided a complete solution to all the schools’ security issues, alongside providing total peace of mind and many additional benefits. "We can even monitor playground activity and this has proved particularly useful in instances for children with behavioural problems. We regularly use the system to observe outside movements from inside the building without confrontation, securing the health and safety of all staff and pupils. People are now seeing that we value our school and parents feel safe in the knowledge that their children are protected at all times", stated Mrs Lord. The new system has brought small but important changes, meaning that the teaching staff can now avoid completing paperwork for insurance claims and dealing with the police, which was increasingly diverting them from their teaching roles. "Our 'SiteMinder' system allows me to concentrate on the school and its pupils. I feel that had we not had the system, the potential losses to the school would have continued and I am extremely pleased with the results. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the service that Chubb and 'SiteMinder' are providing and would be more than happy to recommend your service and your product to other schools", stated Mrs Lord. |

LEISURE Case Study Information, Sector: Leisure Owning six busy amusement arcades is a full time job, and hard enough without the additional hassle of timely opening. A leisure sector client found that one of my biggest concerns was ensuring all six sites were opened up on time. The operator also raised concerns that employees were staying after closing to play on various arcade and amusement machines to collect monies that they were due to pay out. It was also suspected that a key-holder was entering the premises outside normal working hours. Chubb Security implemented its "Timeband Monitoring" solution. Alarm systems that are monitored by Chubb's Alarm Receiving Centre can be configured to send an open or close signal when the intruder alarm system is armed or disarmed. "Timeband Monitoring" customers specify the expected open and closing times of their premises and any signal which is outside of the norm is flagged and the appropriate pre-arranged action is taken. This negated the need for a costly time keeping system to monitor open and close hours. The operator is now immediately informed of any late openings or closes, and any suspect activity in real-time, allowing them to deal with the situation there and then. The system also gives extra assurance for key-holding staff and myself in the event of a forced entry. "I can't fault the set up process, it was superb. Once I had the request form and had filled in my opening hours, my request was set up that same day. Staff were on hand to answer any questions I had concerning the service and set up, and also advised me about RAD, which has now become a vital tool in managing my alarm systems", stated the operator, Paul Smith, Company Owner. The system proved to be great value for money and once staff were aware of its implementation, the incidence of obscure opening and closings was minimal. The information is even available to customers in real-time over the internet. "Now I have the added protection of "Timeband Monitoring", my business and employees are more efficient, more secure and most of all I have complete peace of mind-which is something you can't put a price on." |

VEHICLE DEALERSHIP Case Study Information, Sector: Retail - VEHICLE DEALERSHIP Nothing is more tempting than an unattended site - particularly when it contains hundred of thousands of pounds worth of prestige vehicles. Theft of car components or indeed cars themselves increasingly proves a threat to any car dealership. When Sturgess Motor Group needed a comprehensive system for their biggest site in Leicester they contacted Chubb for a solution. Chubb Security implemented a CCTV system, which was able to act as a deterrent and if the worst happened to help catch offenders in the act and alert the appropriate authorities as necessary. When Sturgess relocated its prestigious Jaguar franchise, it made perfect sense to rely on the services of Chubb. Sturgess acquired a brand new, purpose-built site, on a main route into Leicester. Chubb was involved in specifying the system at an early stage, which paid dividends in ensuring a more secure system was implemented. The risks involved with the site were particularly high, with a large number of prestige vehicles on site at any one time. There was also a potential for loss of customer good will for the dealer, if the customers' vehicles were damaged in any way whilst on site. Chubb identified the need for a security system that would act as a deterrent as well as protecting the site. The 'SiteMinder' solution brings all the advantages of a CCTV system, with full monitoring back up and trained Alarm Receiving Centre staff able to take appropriate action immediately. "We found our local office to be very reactive to our needs and they were able to evaluate our requirements in a quick and efficient manner which ultimately led to the supply of a comprehensive system that provides detailed coverage of our site. In the three year's since installation we have found the system to be very reliable and the field service team to be extremely responsive", stated Chris Sturgess, Director. The 'SiteMinder' system was such a great success that it is now being implemented in Sturgess’s city centre Volvo site. "We do feel that the price asked for the system was extremely fair, both in terms of the hardware but also the monitoring services provided by Chubb. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending the services of Chubb for CCTV requirements, big or small", added Mr Sturgess. |
